Quick question. If I install this beta will I still be able to play on 1.06 servers as well? I have been having a blast for the last 10 days but need some new people to learn from now and then. And I know I can learn a few things here.

you can play both 106 and the 107, due to the fact that the beta is in its own folder, and not overwriting the 106 .exe.

We have a modded version of Evo up for testing on the EU server. Small tweaks:

- enemy heli and planes respawn slower rate and no longer selfdestruct
- player starts as grunt if killed
- respawning vehicles takes 1 hour
- no longer mark as requiring medic for just a tiny scratch
- join squad request double time (20 sec)
- less weapons and ammo available depending on rank
- no weapon on spawn

The most important change is that if you die you lose your points/rank and start from 0.
This will hopefully enforce a better style of play (like we were used to in GR).

Nope. You don't die from losing connection. If you crash or disconnect because of a network problem you will have all your points when you come back. But there are probably cases when temporary issues with your connection to the server might get you killed, for example when flying low... that's a bummer. In GR when you were killed or lost connection you sometimes needed to wait for 30 to 60 minutes to get back in game. Here you're jumping back instantly in the game and you're complaining about losing rank/points  ;wOOt
Nice try  ;loco

New Evolution mod to be uploaded soon:

- Advance in rank faster: 10,20,30,50,80,130
example: make Captain at 50 or Colonel at 130
- Dead bodies stay visible for 1 hour instead of 10 min.
- Player starts with M16A4 by default

I'm going to have to agree with Tim on this one. Last nite on the US server we tried something other than the "snipe from the outside" tactics that need to be employed to maintain rank. We stormed the compound area in Paraiso...and tried to hold the compound from the swarms....we all died...but we had killed a crapload of enemy and gained some valuable points. By the end of the assault on Paraiso some had gained Lt. status...that may have been too high a ranking for just the assault of one town.....but if we were using the new ranking system...most, if not all of us would most likely still been privates....which would not really reflect the way the battle went...and how many enemy were killed and how we accomplished the mission. There has got to be a happy medium here that will allow for some dying with a little slower rank advancement...cuz the enemy can kill yer arse very quickly...even if you think you have yer arse covered!!! ;mg
There are those that break or bend....I'm the other kind....

I also agree, makes for a very uninteresting game continually having only iron sight kits available to you.  If you're going to penalize, penalize 1 rank & points for a death.  As Tim says, this isnt GR, and a no-spawn system isnt going to work with this game.  The AI in ARMA put the AI in GR to shame in their aim, tactics, & ability to take hits and keep on ticking.

That's OK, I'm going to make it so it takes half of your points instead of taking all of them. Should be a good compromise I hope. I just don't like seeing the BF2 type of play that I sometimes saw here. That's what respawns do, ruins the game play. OK, big map, you have to have respawns, but you also have to be penalized for dying. ArmA is a different game and OK it's not GR, but it doesn't mean it's some Battlefield '07 realism mod.

New Evo test version 1.5k uploaded. It's untouched by me, original version. Too bad I don't have the time to try it.

Man... either my googling skills or eyes must be failing me. I've not been able to locate an official release of Evolution above v1.5a  ;confu13 Where is this magical linkage I cannot find?

Evo 1.5o is running. It is very important to remember to have an AI guy in the grey of the town you're attacking to prevent enemy AI respawn in that town.

Once the town is taken does the AI Guy need to stay?
