Arma Patches

General discussion about ARMA, the OFP successor.

I played with just the vanilla Arma 3 dev version last night. The new AI suppression works fine. The new marksmen DLC guillie suits work. Then there is the deployable bipods, new animations to pivot on the bipod to fire in an arc, automatic weapon resting. Some new sounds. New content. All very guicci.

Most of us have time constraints and that is the real issue. Not a lack of interest, but as you stated yes we want things functional. Some times they are not. We deal with it. Your continued Arma work is valued here and I think we would all love to be on the cutting edge.

We have never endured broken stuffs unless we couldn't help it and I personally hope we never do.

Some nice fixes, like switching from lowered weapon to binocs no longer throwing you face to the ground. Also the big gear desync issue should be gone.

This has a lot of potential. I hope it's as easy to use as they portray it to be. The only thing that I'm concerned with is that it will still be difficult to force units to move the ways you want them to. I always had the hardest time with a few things;

Getting helicopters to land if there are any enemy around.

Getting enemy troops to not see everything in the dark, when they aren't even wearing night vision. (without shutting their combat mode off)

Getting troops to fire at nothing in order to give the appearance that they are fighting, then switch to combat mode if the player gets too close. Or having artillery pieces and mortars to fire at nothing. It's all about atmosphere. Much more fun to take out active targets.

Sounds - including speech, distant war sounds, and other atmosphere helpers

I'm assuming that the new system is only going to help with unit placement though. That leaves the hard work for the mission maker, as always. Still, placing that sniper on the ledge will be much easier.
